Care of Laptops in Cold Weather

As the cold Maine winter begins to settle in, here are a few tips to keep your iBook or MacBook running as smoothly as possible. Your laptop works best in temperatures from 50°F to 95°F. If you need to store your laptop in temperatures outside this range, the laptop should always be shut down [not in sleep mode]. Keeping your laptop as near to room temperature as possible [72° F] is ideal. If your laptop has been exposed to cold temperatures for an extended period of time, it's best to let it warm up to room temperature before turning it on or using it.

StudyWiz

MLTI and Apple Computer has introduced Studywiz®, a Virtual Learning Environment for schools, to the MLTI project for 2007. Studywiz enables classroom communications and activities to be accessible anytime, anywhere on any computer in the world with an Internet connection, web browser and secure user login. The Studywiz web-base learning environment will be piloted with 7th & 8th grade students this spring, with full deployment in the fall for the MLTI project at Mahoney and Memorial.

Remote Access - Working from Home

Mahoney and Memorial students are now able to connect remotely to the school network servers from home via the internet. The new service, NetStorage, provides students access to their personal network folders by logging into their account with their assigned username and password. Students will be able to retrieve, compose, edit and save network documents from home. Parents will also have the opportunity to view student files and monitor student work.

Middle School Wireless Network Upgraded

New Airports have been installed at Mahoney and Memorial. The new airports will provide faster connection time to the local network and the internet. AirPort Extreme uses the superfast 802.11g wireless standard with data rates nearly five times the speed of the older AirPorts that had been used on the middle school wireless network.
